STANLEY WILLIAM HAYTER

Stanley William Hayter (1901-1988), est un graveur universellement reconnu mais aussi l'un des grands peintres surréalistes du XXe siècle.

Membre du groupe surréaliste dès 1934, il est très tôt reconnu par la critique et admiré par ses pairs, tels Ernst et Dalí. Installé aux Etats-Unis durant la Seconde guerre mondiale, il est considéré comme l'un des précurseurs de l'expressionnisme abstrait, Pollock et De Kooning ayant fréquenté son atelier new-yorkais.

Les principaux musées du monde, de la Tate au Centre Pompidou en passant par le MoMa et le Metropolitan, détiennent les œuvres de l’artiste.

Cette exposition présentera des toiles des années 1950 aux œuvres abstraites des années 1960 à 1980.

 

Stanley William Hayter (1901-1988) was a universally recognised engraver and one of the great Surrealist painters of the 20th century. A member of the Surrealist group from 1934, he was soon recognised by critics and admired by his peers, such as Ernst and Dalí. He moved to the United States during the Second World War and is considered one of the precursors of Abstract Expressionism, Pollock and De Kooning having visited his New York studio.
The world's leading museums, from the Tate to the Centre Pompidou, the MoMa and the Metropolitan, hold works by the artist. This exhibition will present, through more than twenty paintings, from the 1950s to
